Coffee common is a space where the boundary between public and personal blurs, where people take their personal items out, where people gather with no singular purposes for its gathering. The gathering just becomes a ‘happening’ of a lot of different activities people get up to: drinking, eating, looking, thinking, making, talking, sharing, washing up and ‘...’

COFFEE COMMON
Someone comes in and pays for a mug of americano and decides to sit near the window. Once their drink is brought to them, one comfortably lodges oneself at their choice of seat and takes out a book to read. Others come together, order lattes, perhaps with a slice of cake to share over the sharing of stories of their own. Or some might set out their portable work station with their laptops taken out from their bags until their caffeinated drinks are all consumed, calling for another mug of coffee.
Whether it is a table or two, for work or for catching-up businesses, tables at the cafes provide individuals a room of their own in exchange for caffeinated drinks and sweets. In a city like Seoul, with few parks and places of their own outside of their rented flats, cafes become an assembling point for this common where its constituents hold momentary spots within in exchange for coffees. It is a common without a community or rather, without a sense of community. This common is a space that blurs the boundary between public and personal. People take their personal items out and gather with no singular purpose for its gathering. The gathering is just a ‘happening’ of lots of different activities: drinking, eating, looking, thinking, making, talking, sharing, washing and ‘...’
The drawings of Sinae Park feature people, non-human creatures, tools, overheard conversations and crop up other activities that make up the common at cafes.

THE COMMON
어떤 이가 들어옵니다. 머그잔에 담기는 아메리카노를 주문하고, 창가에 앉기로 합니다. 음료가 나오면, 자신의 자리가 마치, 잠깐 이용할 수 있는 오두막집인 것처럼, 집에서 가져온 책을 꺼내 독서를 시작합니다. 혹은 여러 명이 함께 방문해, 라떼를 주문하고 (케이크도 한 조각도), 서로의 이야기를 나눕니다. 어떤 이는 랩톱을 꺼내어 자신이 주문한 카페인 음료가 없어질 때까지를 시간제한으로 두고, 일합니다.
하나의 테이블 혹은 두 개, 미뤄왔던 일 혹은, 못한 이야기를 나누는 일을 위해서던지, 개인들은 카페인 음료의 값을 지불하고 '자신들의 방(A Room of One's Own)'을 부여받는 것 같습니다. 서울같이 아주 적은 공원과 많은 사람들이 사는 도시에서는, 자신들의 방을 벗어나고 싶을 때 갈 곳이 아주 적은 것 같습니다. 그래서 카페는 이런, 저런 일들을 위한 '어셈블리 포인트' 가 됩니다.
The Common으로서의 카페는 각각의 활동들, 이야기들이 모이는 곳입니다.
이곳은 공유의식이 없는 개인들이 모여서 만든 커먼입니다. 이곳에서 개인들은 커피를 사이에 두고 개인적인 오브제들을 꺼내어 놓고, 개인적인 일들을 꺼냅니다. 사적 영역과 공공 영역의 경계도 모호해지는 곳입니다.
이 커먼에서는 마시기, 먹기, 보기, 생각하기, 만들기, 말하기, 나누기, 설거지, 그리고 ‘…’ 의 활동들이 이루어집니다.
이 드로잉 전시는 일러스트레이터 박시내가 그린 그림의 모임으로, 커먼에서의 활동들, 그 활동들을 하는 사람들과 그들의 툴(도구)들, 사람이 아닌 생명, 그리고 엿들은 대화들을 전시합니다.
